We have finally settled on our fall 2022 breeding schedule and want to share what we are expecting for next spring!

First, if you haven’t read our post regarding our newest buck, Redstone Fastbreak Sundevil, I encourage you to take a look. We are very excited to have this buck working on our farm and expect a lot of milk, great udders, and fantastic bodies as a result. The second buck we’re using, Suitor’s RF Ole Smokey, is a son out of our Onaqui BQ Moonshine and his sire is out of Rosasharn’s Cream of the Crop, SG Rosasharn SH Sonnet 5*M. Without further ado, let’s get into my expectations.

Mesquite Valley S Li’l Honey and Mesquite Valley FK Sonoran Sun both have Elite connections and both are on our 2023 performance watch list. If they don’t excel in the pail, I will be fantastically disappointed. Both of these does are being paired to Sundevil because he is also out of Elite lines on both sides of his genetics and I’m also expecting increased milk outputs from the offspring from these pairings. We’re super excited to see how they perform on milk test next year and both have consistently had my eye as our herd’s next top performers. Our expectations are to keep a doeling from each and the rest will be up for grabs.

Sonora’s dam, Sundae, earned her Elite status as a first freshener and her sire is out of some of DesertNanny’s best genetics. Sonora will also be French Kiss’ first daughter to freshen so to say we are on performance watch, is an understatement. All that said, because of her genetics, I’m expecting her to do well. She has some stuff to live up to. Polled kids are possible with this kidding.

Li’l Honey is probably my most anticipated of the two. Her dam is one of my favorite does when I look at overall body and udder and performed very well as a first freshener. Li’l Honey’s sire, Sundance, has already given me one Elite doe and honestly, I’m crossing my fingers for another. Jubilee & Sundae both share the same dam so I’m in great anticipation. Pairing her to Sundevil was an obvious choice but my biggest desire for this pairing is to keep that great depth of body on her dam’s side and increased milk output. Blue eyes and polled kids are possible with this kidding.

Sundae is being paired with Sundevil because of the Elite genetics. I’m also hoping that Sundevil will add brisket and increase milk output. We will be keeping one doeling from this pairing and the rest will be up for grabs. Polled kids are possible with this kidding.

Jubilee is being paired with Sundevil to increase milk output and solidify that great depth and length of body on this doe. Jubilee’s udder is beautiful, increasing output is always welcome and while her attachments are sound, I won’t argue with bettering them. I’m very much looking forward to seeing this doe as a second freshener also. I’ve had one heck of a time getting a decent picture that actually represents Jubilee in an honest light. Now that I have a little guidance on training, we’ll be working on that in hopes that by next freshening, I can show why I love this doe so much.

Free Spirit is being paired with Sundevil because I’d like to increase her milk output, depth of body, and udder shape and attachments. The one thing that stood out to me during Spirits first pregnancy was her astonishing length of body. She carried quads and you couldn’t tell she was pregnant. In fact, the only time you could tell she was carrying was when she was laying down. She is an average producer, easy to hand-milk, earned her milk star on her first freshening but she has room for improvements that Sundevil should easily satisfy. Polled and blue eyes are possible with this kidding.

Luna is being paired with Sundevil to solidify that gorgeous depth of body she’s already displaying as a yearling. I’m really looking forward to seeing Luna’s udder. Luna’s dam is a great producer, has a fantastic head and body but her udder needs a little work. I’m anticipating Luna’s sire has sufficiently improved the shape and attachments of her dam’s udder. Rosasharn genetics have done very good things in our herd where udders are concerned.  If the udder isn’t quite there, this pairing ought to do it because everything else on this doe is just fantastic. We will be keeping one doeling from this pairing, the rest will be up for grabs.
